What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the Word of God, supernaturally inspired.

We believe that the Godhead exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and that these three are one God.

We believe that Jesus Christ was both God and man, born of a virgin, and lived a sinless life. He was crucified, died as a penalty of our sins, and was raised from the dead on the third day.

We believe that in His death, the Lord Jesus Christ makes a perfect atonement for sin.

We believe that a true believer cannot lose his salvation, but that sin may interrupt the joy of his fellowship with God and bring the loving discipline of his Heavenly Father.

We believe that all who receive Christ become joint-heirs with Christ, and at death, their spirits depart to be with Christ.

We believe that it is the goal of every Christian to grow in spiritual maturity through obedience to the Word of God and the indwelling Spirit.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, is God and possesses all the divine attributes. He indwells all believers, baptizes and seals all believers at the moment of their salvation, and fills them in response to confession of sin and yieldedness.

We believe that speaking in tongues is Biblical.  The Apostle Paul spoke more than anyone.  However, he also stressed God’s desire for people to desire the greater gifts, those that benefit the Body of Christ.  Because the issue of tongues has been a divisive topic in so many churches today, ABC does not admit into membership anyone who PUBLICLY practices and/or promotes tongues.

History of ABC

Atascadero Bible Church has a very rich history. The Cornerstone of our building reads "Social Hall of the Federated Church of Atascadero, CA, dedicated November 25, 1920," The building was built by E.G. Lewis, founder of the Colony of Atascadero.

The original intent of Mr. Lewis was that in addition to a Community Center the building would serve as a place for all the churches of Atascadero to gather. The building, along with its large swimming pool in the back, served many functions. During World War II, the pool was used by the U.S. Army to train service men to swim, and in addition, was used as the high school pool before their own was built.  The original Atascadero Elementary School used the church rooms for classes after the War. The gymnasium has served as a roller skating rink and even a movie theatre complete with theatre seating.

As the community grew, the Federated Church was dissolved. A group of believers purchased the building in 1936 and renamed it "The church of the Living Word". The church was later renamed "Atascadero Memorial Church."  In 1973, under the leadership of Pastor E.B. Claud, the name of the church was again changed to "Atascadero Bible Church."

The church has continued to grow from a congregation of 200 back in 1973 to 1400 today. 

In July of 1991, Atascadero Bible Church launched into a building project to build a new Worship Center and office complex. The Worship Center was dedicated on November 1, 1994. The office complex followed a year later. In the fall of 1999 a new 12,000 sq. ft. Christian Education Complex was added to meet the continued needs for more space. This building was opened and dedicated to the Lord on November 19th, 2000.
 
Recognizing the value of investing in our future generation, Atascadero Bible Church, in summer 2007, completed construction of a 15,000 sq. ft. Student Center building for our youth that included outreach to HS students on lunch break throughout the week.  Used extensively throughout the week, this building provides space for two of our Sunday Worship Service venues, North County Christian School, community outreach, Friday evening Celebrate Recovery services, and numerous other functions and activities.

Centered on the authority of the Word of God, ABC purposefully challenges, teaches, and equips its members to become more like Jesus Christ.  We call this Life Transformation.  We believe transformation needs to happen on a personal level, in marriages, families, and communities. It takes place best in small group environments we call Community Groups.  In these groups the ABC’s happen- Accountability, Belonging, and Caring.  From children, youth, to adults of all ages, these groups are living out Life Transformation that brings glory to God. 

While God’s Word never changes, everything that HE touches does.  We seek to provide hospitable environments, removing obstacles so people have an opportunity to either accept or reject Christ.

We believe that Atascadero Bible Church’s best days are yet to come and as we remain true to His Word in our worship, education, discipleship, outreach, and fellowship, God will continue to pour out His blessing upon the people of ABC who in turn will bless this community and the world.
